born 1999 on the Gold Coast, QLD, lives and works in Sydney, NSW
Sara O’Leary-Whitney grew up on the Gold Coast, QLD and currently lives and works in Sydney, NSW.
Self taught in her medium, Sara has been a practicing artist since 2020 and creates hyper-realistic pieces through the use of coloured pencil on paper. What can take many hours, weeks and months is a representation of Sara's appreciation for the process of seeing each piece come to life and accepting the "slow burn" through which pencil work entails.
Her artworks explore an overall concept of humanity and human nature, through the composition of pre-loved objects, collections from travels as well as miscellaneous items that exist within Sara’s life. Whilst these objects often hold little importance, they can carry an underlying idea of who we are as individuals and demonstrate how material pleasures reflect the temporary nature of life.
